Oceania Triathlon

The Asian Triathlon Confederation (ASTC) and the International Triathlon Union (ITU) hosted an ITU level 1 Community Coaches’ Education Course in Bangkok, Thailand from April 15-18, 2011.

The Coaching Course took place at Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok.  Nineteen Coaches from different regions of Thailand attended the under the supervision of Luc Morin (ITU Coach Facilitator), Stephanie Chok (Malaysia) and Ashiq Sg (Singapore) in supporting the development of triathlon in Thailand. Lectures and practical coaching sessions focused on teaching skills, skills development, technical efficiency, and sport development.

Throughout the course all the candidates for coaches were satisfied with the presentations and practical sessions presented by facilitators.

“All of you are super professional and full of knowledge and experiences in triathlon. Throughout the course, you kindly share your knowledge and experience to everyone in the class. Answer every question and attempted to describe when there were confused or misunderstood. After finishing the course I have reviewed what I had learnt from you. I believe that I got the objectives of the course and more about coaching philosophy,” said Santi Tienwang, former national team athlete.

The Thailand Triathlon Federation president, Vijitr Sittinawin, said: “This is a great opportunity to develop our coaches’ knowledge, based on their experience. We feel very fortunate.”

This level 1 Community Coaches’ Education Course is part of ASTC’s development initiative, supported by ITU, for the development of coaching expertise though out Asia and serves as a platform to develop triathlon in Thailand.
