A calm, collected approach from Czech Republic’s Vendula Frintova at the first Huelva ITU World Cup paid huge dividends on Sunday morning as she won gold by an impressive 36-second margin over Canada’s Joanna Brown in a time of 2:01:14. The USA’s Chelsea Burns finished in third, narrowly beating Japan’s Yuko Takahashi to the line thanks to a blistering final flourish.

Glorious sunshine and pristine beaches packed with spectators welcomed participants to the first ever ITU Huelva World Cup, where two newcomers finished on top of the podium. Germany’s Justus Nieschlag claimed the men’s gold after a consistent and dominant race, with Czech Republic’s Vendula Frintova winning the women’s race by a comfortable margin over the rest of the field.

2017 Karlovy Vary ITU World Cup - Elite Women’s Highlights
Australian Gillian Backhouse won the first ever edition of the ITU Karlovy Vary World Cup after a dominant race, showcasing a magnificient swim, a strong bike and a consistent run in the hills and cobbled streets of the Czech Republic town. Cheered on by the local crowds, local triathlete Vendula Frintova crossed the finish line in second, while American Summer Cook finished third.

2017 Karlovy Vary ITU World Cup - Elite Men’s Highlights
It was a day of firsts in Karlovy Vary for the inaugural ITU World Cup. First time ever Gustav Iden (NOR) has won a World Cup, with an impressive performance, and another first Tayler Reid (NZL) got on the podium in a World Cup, as he finished third. Completing the podium, veteran Italian, Alessandro Fabian, got his first podium of the season after some months off racing following the Rio 2016 Olympics.

2017 Yucatan ITU World Cup - Elite Women’s Highlights
Collecting her first world cup victory of the season, USA’s Summer Cook captured the win of the inaugural 2017 Yucatan ITU World Cup. After having a breakthrough 2016 season and stepping onto four world cup podiums, the win was long overdue for the American as she will be named the first-ever Yucatan Champion.

And it was a perfect set up for another Swiss triathlete, Andrea Briffod, to surprise everyone with a win on a race with plenty of big names on the start list.

2017 Chengdu ITU Triathlon World Cup - Elite Women’s Highlights
While she is no stranger to winning, Great Britain’s Non Stanford and former ITU World Triathlon Series World Champion of 2013 has never won a World Cup race in her career, until today. The Brit earned her first career WC gold after surviving two days of racing at the 2017 Chengdu ITU Triathlon World Cup in her first WC race since 2011.

Katie Zaferes (USA) has continued the American domination at the New Plymouth World Cup on Sunday, winning the event for a second time, her first in 2014, and the fourth consecutive by the US women.Canadian Joanna Brown stormed home to take her first World Cup podium, and the silver medal from Belgium’s Claire Michel who put herself in the mix the whole day over the Sprint distance format.Zaferes was in the lead group out of the swim, remained alert and out of trouble in the tricky conditions on the bike with her compatriots Taylor Spivey, Kristen Kasper, Sarah True, Chelsea Burns and Summer Cook.
