Preparation has begun for the 2011 Gijón ITU Duathlon World Championships, with the official formation of the local organising committee. ITU president Marisol Casado was on site to witness the official formation of the organising committee. 

“I am convinced of the organizing success because of the city and because of human resources like Laura Tuero and Jorge García, one of the best international technical delegates,” said Marisol Casado, ITU president who was present at the announcement of the committee.

Gijón will host the Spanish Duathlon Championships in April which will be an important test for the 2011 event.

Edinburgh will stage the 2010 ITU Duathlon World Championships. The duathlon event consists of a 10km run, 40km cycle and 5km run and is expected to attract hundreds of elite and age group competitors from around the world to the Scottish capital.
