Triathlon development in Fiji moved another step forward this month, as a total of 29 participants took part in an ITU Level 1 Club Coaches Course in Suva from March 15 to 18.

The participants came from a total of 16 different organisations, who have all been involved in the development of triathlon in Fiji over recent years. The ITU Course facilitator Peter Clifford, from Triathlon Australia, and Brett Reid, from Triathlon New Zealand, said that they were impressed with the turnout, one of the largest groups that they had ever facilitated at a single seminar.

The theory section of the course was held at the FASANOC conference room at Olympic House, while the practical sessions for the swim, bike and run were conducted at the Fiji Sports Council facilities at Laucala Bay.

Across the four days, all participants covered sections on history, physiology, swim theory and swim practical, communication, nutrition, bike theory and bike practical, ethics session planning, run theory and run practical, psychology, long term development and an exam to assess knowledge.
